My name is Dev Merugumala. I’m a doctor who has been living in Texas ever since I was 3-years-old.
I’m exclusively Texas-educated—from preschool to medical school.
I moved to southeast Texas a few years back for further medical training. I now live in La Marque, Texas.
As a pediatrician, I have cared for children with both simple and complex medical needs in a variety of settings from here to the Texas panhandle.
I am running to be Texas state representative of our beloved 23rd state house district because of my commitment to children and their families.
I am fighting to ensure that every child is free to grow up and live a happy, healthy life.
And, fundamentally, I am fighting for every Texan’s opportunity to get a fair shot at realizing their version of the American dream, like I did.
I come from a working class Texan family with my mom who was a daycare worker and my dad who continues a storied career working at the VA. Growing up, I saw them work long and hard hours to pay rent and to put food on the table for my brother and me.
As first-generation Americans, my parents well understood the struggles that all working Texans face of paying your bills and saving for the future while navigating life’s unexpected challenges and surprise costs.
I recognize that my personal professional success today is only thanks to my parents’ hard work and sacrifices.
I will never forget how needlessly backbreaking that working Texans can have it simply to provide a comfortable life for themselves and their families.
I will never forget what a steep uphill climb it can be for working Texans to maintain even some semblance of what used to be thought of as a normal middle class lifestyle.
Today, I’m proud to campaign on behalf of working Texan families, like the one I come from, to deliver increased economic opportunities that will enable folks to pull themselves up.
With my candidacy, I choose to focus my time and energy on tackling the kitchen-table economic issues that actually deliver more money into the pockets of everyday working Texans.
If, like me, you strive to see a government that prioritizes the concerns of working Texans over wealthy corporate special interests, I humbly ask for your vote this Fall.
Lastly, I would very much appreciate any monetary donations you are able to make, however large or small. Waging a grassroots campaign like this one requires every dollar we can get.
